SAP History
The German company originally named System Analysis Program Development (Systemanalyse Programmentwicklung) was formed in 1972 and has been tremendously successful. It is now an international technology company with headquarters in Walldorf, Germany, employing 105,000 staff around the world.
SAP made its name in the global ERP market with its original offerings, SAP R/2 and SAP R/3. Now it's moving to the next level with S4/HANA and the transition to cloud. High speed in-memory processing capabilities provided by S4/HANA users with great benefits with instant access to data for analytics.
SAP already boasts millions of cloud users and over 25 modules or 100 solutions, one of the largest portfolios of integrated business applications.
What is ERP?
Enterprise resource planning or ERP is software that manages and integrates the key corporate activities of supply chain, financials, operations, commerce, reporting, manufacturing, customer relationship management and human resources.
These processes used to be isolated which lead to obstruction of adoption or optimization of business critical processes. SAP with its suite of products or business modules, brings these process together in SAP ERP Central Component (SAP ECC) the on-premise solution or the new school cloud offerings; S4/HANA, Business One and Business by Design.
