Senior Network, Security & DR Engineer – Freelance (Remote from Europe) 7‑Month Rolling Contract – 1 FTE
A high‑impact engineering role owning the network edge, security appliances, and disaster‑recovery automation layer for a large-scale, cloud‑agnostic platform transformation. You will ensure that all network and edge‑security components are automated, resilient, observable, and consistently deployable across hybrid environments.
This mission sits inside a modern platform engineering organisation delivering infrastructure‑as‑code, network‑as‑code, and fully automated HA/DR capabilities across data centres and cloud.
You will lead the automation and operational reliability of F5 BIG‑IP, Barracuda CloudGen, DNS, SSL, and traffic‑steering services. You’ll work closely with platform engineers, SRE/observability teams, and cloud architects to deliver a fully automated, multi‑region, multi‑environment network and DR capability.
Automate F5 BIG‑IP and Barracuda configurations using APIs and network‑as‑code pipelines
Design and automate HA and DR solutions across data centres and cloud platforms
Build automated DR failover/failback procedures using platform APIs and scripting
Deliver automated DNS, SSL certificate, and traffic‑steering workflows across edge platforms
Collaborate with observability engineers on monitoring, alerting, and HA/DR visibility
Support global traffic routing, health checks, and regional failover strategies
Integrate load balancers, firewalls, and cloud services into monitoring and log‑collection platforms
Strong hands‑on expertise with F5 BIG‑IP (LTM, APM, Webtop; ideally ASM & GTM)
Proven ability to automate F5 via API or IaC
Deep experience with Barracuda CloudGen NextGen Firewall (rules, VPN, automation)
Experience with physical and virtual appliances across hybrid environments
Hands‑on DNS management (Cloudflare or similar), including automated DNS updates and traffic steering
Solid enterprise networking fundamentals: VLANs, routing, switching, hybrid troubleshooting
Practical experience deploying and managing SSL certificates across load balancers, firewalls, and edge platforms
Experience integrating network and security platforms into monitoring, alerting, and log‑analysis systems
Knowledge of global/geo‑based traffic routing, load‑balancing policies, and health‑check design
